Engaging with Records and Archives: Histories and Theories
نویسنده
چکیده
Archives are typically imagined as a file morgue, that dusty place to which papers, records, and other collections are deposited for permanent storage. The archivist is somewhat of a “person of mystery,” as archivists are not depicted in popular culture and the role of the archivist is not widely understood. This book fills in these gaps of knowledge, giving the reader insight into not only the thoughts and discussion of people working in archives, but also the fascinating world of archival collecting and research. This book of scholarly essays from the Seventh International Conference on the History of Records and Archives (I-CHORA 7) held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in July 2015 covers a wide variety of topics, range of time periods, and international settings. Readers familiar with ongoing theories and controversies in archival practice will find this book informative and a compelling contribution to archival literature.

Evaluation of Nonlinear Response of Structures to Near-Fault Ground Motions and the Comparison of Results with Near-Fault Simulated Records
Near-fault ground motions have caused very much damage in the vicinity of seismic sources during recent earthquakes. It is well known that under specific circumstances, intensive ground shakings near fault ruptures may be characterized by short-duration impulsive motions. This pulse-type motion is generally particular to the forward direction, where the fault rupture propagates towards the site...

Freud's theories on the unique and private quality of man's mode of consciousness and the meddling of the past with ...
متن کاملThe Generation of Earthquake PGA Using Stochastic Finite Fault Method in Alborz Region
Time-history analysis is defined as a kind of dynamic analysis increasingly used in design of structures and evaluation of existing ones. One of the important issues in the Time-history analysis is selecting earthquake records. In this case, seismic design provisions states that time histories shall have similar source mechanisms, geological and seismological features with region under study. A...
متن کاملThe Archival Sliver : Power , Memory , and Archives in South Africa ∗
Far from being a simple reflection of reality, archives are constructed windows into personal and collective processes. They at once express and are instruments of prevailing relations of power. Verne Harris makes these arguments through an account of archives and archivists in the context of South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy. The account is deliberately shaped around three ...
